The main objective of launching this scheme is to provide crop insurance coverage to the farmers, especially for the Kharif season crops. • The West Bengal Bangla Shasya Bima Yojana is a crop insurance scheme presented by the Government.
• The insurance will be provided by the agriculture insurance company of India
• Lots of districts of the West Bengal State are covered in this scheme namely Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Malda, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Purulia, Dakshin Dinajpur, North 24 Parganas, and South 24 Parganas.
• The full premium amount will be paid by the West Bengal State Government in this scheme.
• Insurance will be provided on the following occasions-
  • For any losses suffered during planting
  • Losses suffered during cultivation
  • The losses occurred during the period post-cutting when crops are lying in the field
  • Losses caused due to adverse weather situations.
• The insurance amount will be calculated on a hectare basis.

• The premium bonus will be phased out in a period of 5 years, subject to analysis of the financial results and the reply of the farmers at the end of the 1st year of the implementation of the Scheme.

Some Important Details Regarding The Scheme

• Government have launched BSB app for online registration of farmers for crop Insurance under the scheme
• The app of the scheme is used by the intermediate users. The users can download the app from Google Play Store
• If the voter ID card is already registered then farmers can get the details of the insured crops from the app
• Through app users can get the list of notified crops
• Beneficiaries cannot edit EPIC number, farmer name, relation with farmer and farmer Bank name after entering data during registration
• The list of notified crops can be taken from the portal
• The data entry on the portal can be done by intermediary users
• The application of farmers will be approved by implementing agencies
• Farmers can also download provisional insurance certificate from the portal
• The state government implements the scheme through insurance companies
• The state government will bear 100% of the premium as subsidy to all the notified crops except the commercial crops which are potato and sugarcane
• Implementation of the scheme will be monitored by the state government
• Only those crops which are notified by the state government before commencement of crop season will be covered under crop Insurance
• The potato and sugarcane farmers have to bear up to 4.85% of the sum insured and the state government will bear excess premium if it is above 4.85%
• Beneficiaries can also lodge grievance at the portal
• The information about the crop damage can be shared through the toll free number of the insurance company
• Prevented sowing/major showing mid season adversity for major crops and season and claims for all notified crops will be covered by crop Insurance
• The crop assessment will be done either on the basis of crop cutting experiment or through remote sensing technology by monitoring the crop health factor
• Farmers are required to visit the village level camps which will be organised by the authorities in order to apply under the scheme
• All the farmers including sharecroppers and tenant farmers growing notified crop in the notified areas are eligible
