On 22nd February 2023, The Honorable chief minister Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra announced the Maharashtra Food Kit Scheme. This scheme has been announced for saffron ration card holders. The government is going to spend Rs 473.79 crore for the scheme. The beneficiary is will get the kits called AnandachaShidha (Food of Joy) for Rs. 100 only. The kits may include one kg each of rawa, sugar, chana dal (lentils), and one liter of palm oil. The distribution will start on GudhiPadwa, the Marathi new year, on March 22 and will remain till Dr. B R Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on April 14.

Objective of Maharashtra Food Kit Scheme

The motive of the Government of Maharashtra behind providing Maharashtra food kits is to help the financially weaker families to celebrate the festival of GudiPadwawithout any financial crisis. Earlier on the Diwali festival the Government of Maharashtra also thought to provide kits but due to certain reasons, the scheme was not started. Now the government has launched the Maharashtra food kit scheme. In this scheme, the government is going to disturb the food kit to all the saffron ration card holders.

Only saffron ration card holders will get the food kit provided by the Maharashtra government. The scheme has been recently announced and will come into force from 22nd March 2023 on the occasion of gudipadwa.
