About Tamil Nadu Free Sewing Machine Scheme 2022

The Government of Tamil Nadu has launched the Tamil Nadu Free Sewing Machine. Through this scheme, beneficiaries are provided with free sewing machines so that they can generate self-employment. This scheme is being implemented by the social welfare and nutritious meal programme department. Under this scheme, the cloth for the free supply of uniforms is supplied to the 32 cutting centres that are functioning under the control of the social welfare department. These clothes are cut in the cutting Centre. After that, the cloth is given to the concerned tailoring societies in order to stitch the uniform. The stitched uniforms are delivered to 413 AEEOs and 67 DEOs of the Education Department through these societies.

Through this scheme, the government provides 15500 advanced sewing machines to the members of women industrial cooperative society with a 10% government subsidy. Women tailoring training centres are also functioning under this scheme at Salem and Tiruvannamalai which are exclusively for tribal women. In these centres, every year 35 tribal women are trained.

The main objective of the TN Free Sewing Machine Scheme is to provide a supply of free sewing machines in order to generate self-employment. This scheme enhances the income of the beneficiaries. Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must be permanent resident of Tamil Nadu
  • The applicant must belong to the following category:-
    • Widows
    • Deserted wives
    • Women from economic weaker section
    • Differently abled men and women
    • Socially affected women
  • The income of the applicant should be below Rs 12000
  • Age of the applicant should be between 20 to 40 years
