The Government of Karnataka has launched a WhatsApp Chatbot which will help people to apply for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme without outdoor hassle. As we have already mentioned that under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme government will provide financial assistance of Rs 2000 per month to the women heads of households and the amount will be directly transferred into their bank accounts. The Government has provided a WhatsApp number 8147500500 to which the Chatbot is linked. Users have to send their details to the WhatsApp number, then the Chatbot will assist and guide the user to complete the application process.

After that Chatbot transfers all the applications to Karnataka One Bangalore One and Grama One offices, where these applications are checked. As per sources about 7 lakh applications have been received via Chatbot. This program was one of the five election pledges made by the Congress party during the Karnataka assembly campaign.

The Government of Karnataka has not decided yet whether citizens should be given direct access to the Chatbot due to cost considerations. It costs about 80Rs per person to access Chatbot and if citizens are given direct access then the cost will rise. The Gruha Lakshmi scheme is one of the most expensive schemes among the five guarantees and the government has set about 17,500 crore for its proper functioning.
