YSR Kalyanamastu Scheme Implemented

The YSR Kalyanamasthu and YSR Shadi Tohfa schemes were introduced by the Andhra government. These schemes would take effect on October 1. The eligibility age for brides and grooms is 18 and 21, respectively, the programs would contribute to reducing child marriages and school dropouts. Within 60 days following their wedding, they can apply for the program at the village and ward secretariats. The sum would be credited once every three months. The scheme is related to education and is intended to prevent dropouts.

The children must have completed at least Class X in order to be eligible for the Kalyanamasthu and Shadi Tohfa programs, which are a component of the educational reforms. The program would benefit construction employees as well as SC, ST, BC, and minorities. Such a program had been discontinued by the previous administration in 2018, leaving 17,709 recipients with arrears of Rs 68.68 crores. Currently, SC and STs are paid Rs 1 lakh instead of Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000. Previously, the amount was Rs. 75,000 but has since been raised to Rs. 1.2 lakh for inter-caste weddings.

While the previous administration had promised to pay Rs 30,000 for BCs, the current government is paying Rs 50,000, while the fee for intercaste marriages has increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 75,000. The payment was doubled to RS 1 lakh for minorities. For people with disabilities, it was raised from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 1.5 lakh.
