The beneficiaries would now receive an incentive worth Rs. 2.5 lakh instead of the previous Rs. 1 lakh.
The incentive would be taken into consideration for a union in which one spouse belonged to a Scheduled Caste and the other to a Non-Scheduled Caste.
The program attempts to promote more inter-caste unions to end untouchability and promote social equality.
Both spouses must be Hindus and permanent residents of Odisha who are both citizens of India.
The union must be legally recognized and properly registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.
Only those getting married for the first time would be eligible for the grant. However, if either the bride or the bridegroom is a widow or widower, they would qualify for the incentive.
If the marriage ends in divorce within five years, the pair must pay the money back within a year, a government official said.
The incentive would also be provided for starting a business or buying land or other necessary items for a household.
The incentive money would be deposited in the couple’s joint account at any nationalized bank, and they wouldn’t be able to withdraw it until they had been married for three years.

Hindu Scheduled Castes and other castes within the Hindu community have been wed in intercaste ceremonies. The union must be legally recognized and properly registered under the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955.

The incentive would be provided for starting a business, purchasing land, or basic household items.
The Indian Constitution’s Article 341 defines the scheduled castes, and one of the spouses must be from one of those groups.
